The moment I’ve been waiting for is finally here: tonight FOX’s Weird Loners, the show I only care about because I have an irrational possessiveness of Ridgewood, Queens even though I haven’t lived there in 15 years, premieres tonight. If this was happening 15 years ago, which it wouldn’t–or even five years ago–a viewing party would be pretty unimaginable.
I guess I do like that the characters are meant to be mid-30s–three of the four leads are confirmed non-millennials and the fact that Meera Rohit Kumbhani doesn’t list her age on IMDB implies she’s older than she wants you to believe. As opposed to New Girl where everyone is 34-36 in real life and look like they are 34-36 on screen but live like 20somethings.
There is a TV show set in my now neighborhood that debuted last fall and most definitely wasn’t kicked off in a bar by the young gentrification-aware. So there is no confusion, it’s called Jackson Heights. It airs in Urdu.
