I've determined that generally it takes me three times hearing/reading about something before I take notice and possibly do something about, i.e. buy a product. I have access to a zillion surveys that would show how purchases are influenced (mostly friends and family over experts and editorial, in-person conversations over online) but who cares.
Despite a self-imposed ban on buying any new clothing or housewares (partially a money-saving plan, partially because I already have plenty of crap) that I've stuck with for months, I caved and bought two pairs of shoes in a week (and I still want another pair–black flats with maybe an accent color and an ankle strap like these) I've been deleting all sale emails without looking at them.
I do not need new boots because I just bought a pair of Frye (is it wrong to say Frye's?) in November that were not cheap. But I don't have brown boots. I broke down and peeked at a J. Crew sale email and couldn't resist because $379 marked down to $269, then half off for extended calf boots that aren't ugly or too flat or too tall is impossible. Of course, they're not returnable at the price and J. Crew is kind of asshole-ish for having a free shipping threshold as high as $150 (plus, no reviews which is outrageous in 2014). They're slightly big, but I can wear a pair of socks for this price.
But back to the original point. I keep hearing about these Loeffler-Randall Tamsin pumps and how they are the most comfortable heel ever. (Tamsin is also the name of the actress whose hair I'm concerned about having.) I'm not convinced and can only wear heels after I get where I'm going, not commuting. But then I started getting worn down and more curious because I would like to be the sort of woman who can wear a 3" heel like it's a flat. I consider anything over 2" high, so I felt a little vindicated by this characterization "a nice low heeled pump (remember when this was actually considered kind of high?)" Yes, I do. This was also the third time (here and here) this shoe had been mentioned on this blog. And just the week before, it was called out on a different blog as one of "Six Pumps You Can Walk In All Day Long" plus a commenter said she wore them for an extended period of time during her wedding.
Ok, fine. Sold. I wouldn't pay full price for the experiment ($350) but managed to find a black suede, gold spangled version on Amazon for just $97. I know I will destroy the heel. I still haven't worn them out of the house. Maybe I never will. I'm going to New Orleans Sunday so I could test them out, but it's already well into open-toe season there and it's all about walking since drinking 24 hours a day isn't frowned upon.
This is what passes for entertainment when you spend a lot of time working from home.
