It seems odd that I mentioned my hands turning blue, but not including any evidence. No matter what lighting I tried using, though, the strong blue hue just doesn't register. In February it was just my knuckles. In April my entire palm was so blue that I checked with a coworker to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. He thought I'd rubbed my hands in ink. I'm pretty sure having photographic proof was the only reason the nephrologist referred me to a rheumatologist. (I was going to say that doctors, men in particular, never seem to take concerns seriously but really the women I see have the same skeptical temperament, probably a doctor personality trait.)
All that said, there's nothing wrong. My bloodwork was normal, my joints were normal, no biggie. I don't understand how putting ultrasound goop on my knuckle and using a magnifying glass shows blood vessels works exactly, but that's fine (does the gel contain see-through properties?). Because my fingers were the problem I did not anticipate being made to put on a gown and have my legs rubbed. And because it's still winter weather (minus yesterday's pure humidity76-degree fluke that made me sweat in shock during my commute–I was the only person on the entire subway who was sweating so hard that my hair turned wet, a symptom of something I'd like to believe but one that would be dismissed out of hand by a doctor for sure) I had not shaved all week. Welcome to May!
