The middle ages have skipped to straight-up elderly. A new milestone in my social media world has been reached: the first person (I’m aware of) in my graduating class has become a grandparent. Cheers to 39-year-old grandpas everywhere!
Sadly, I don’t know my grandfather’s exact age (he’s long gone and I'm too lazy to ask anyone) but I suspect it was right around 39 when I was born. My grandma was 37. That’s them with me.
The photo that I know exists somewhere but do not have in my possession shows five generations: me, my mom, grandma, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Pretty impressive, and not a feat that could be accomplished if you didn’t become a grandparent before reaching middle age.
clearly I am a loser, as I had my first child at 36 (not from lack of trying, mind you. She was a total surprise)…
