Booties Call

Am I going to have to go all Middle Ages on style
blogs' asses? These are not kitten heels!  At least Anthropologie knows what's up (I don't even like kitten heels really, but they keep popping up in my world).

I am not proud, but my latest time-wasting procrastination seems to be online shoe browsing (tied with wallpaper–I want this for my kitchen and something similar to this for my bedroom–and carpet looking). This is a perfect distraction because I have very specific sets of criteria and can spend hours (can, but try not to) finding a pump or boot or bootie with just the right amount of height and comfort and unscuffability. I don't convert, to use ecommerce marketing speak, often; it's just a soothing past time (until I become enraged at the misuse of "kitten heel").

Lately, though, my tastes have upscaled uncomfortably. I've always been a $150 and under (preferably <$99) boot type. And now all of a sudden everything I like (booties, really, maybe I should say short boots since booties is kind of horrible, not knee-highs, stacked wood heels, preferably) is closer to $400s or more; this is just is random boutiquey sample. Shouldn't there be an intermediate step? This is not justifiable.

And then half the things I find on Pinterest (an issue I mentioned in my latest report, btw) are on totally obscure foreign sites with dead links. I want these crazy green shoes, not booties, from an Australian brand called Provensen, but I can only find one US source that cost $273 and they're sold out of my size anyway. I think they remind me of a nonexpensive pair of shoes, probably from Wild Pair, that I had in the early '90s, but with a lug sole. I did find a good sale price in my size here, but international shipping is $50. What price frivolity?

I've also discovered that rugs in the size I'm looking for, 8'10" minimum, are easily $1,000 and go much higher. Do people just spend thousands of dollars on things that you're going to walk all over in dirty (expensive) shoes and that your cat will scratch and poop on?
