The addition of a rug is a pretty basic move that did change the tenor of the space. It all of a sudden occurred to me that my pink and mauve hallway runner made no sense with mint green walls and amped up this color scheme. It also lends a kind of gross and homey prairie vibe that I dig. (Strangely, my cat has never ever destroyed this rug or attempted to crap on it but can’t keep her paws and posterior off its teal and cream hallway replacement.) Rugs in kitchens are mildly controversial in their impracticality, but I’m on board. Never mind how I’ve already spilled wet coffee grounds and eggshells onto it. I’m just glad this kitchen had hardwood floors to begin with and not linoleum.
